Harishchandrachi Factory : Film Analysis & Realism

Film Analysis through the lens of realism used in the craft
Get Real! Realism through ages.
Cinema is possibly the most influential medium of communication. The big screen brings the story to the viewer and its impact is so powerful that visuals, music linger on one’s mind for quite a time. Cinematic realism focuses on presenting stories that audience can easily connect with. They are relatable and can be subjective. Every individual takes away something from the film. A Marathi film ‘Harischandrachi Factory’ follows the same track. It is a biopic of the ‘father of the Indian Cinema’- Dadasaheb Phalke. It talks about his journey of making the first ever Indian film and starting a new era of creation in India. Biopic is a direct application of realism in an artwork. A real story of an individual, placed on somewhat real locations, people involved, make you believe in those characters and in its truthiness.
Essay identifies examples of realness acquired in the making of the film and its then impact.
